Wayne Douglas Belcher's Obituary
Wayne Douglas Belcher, age 72, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1954, in Columbus to the late Harry Belcher Jr. and Rose Belcher (Then). Wayne was also preceded in death by his oldest son, Jason T. Belcher.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Lea Ann Belcher (Coontz). He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children, Matthew Belcher and Kelly Belcher; his daughters-in-law, Judith Belcher, Holly Chain and Lindsay Felt; his granddaughters, Makenzie and Lillian Belcher; and his sister, Bonnie Warner. He also leaves behind a large, loving extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, alongside many close friends he considered family.
A proud veteran, Wayne honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he dedicated decades of hard work to the United States Postal Service, where he walked countless miles before retiring as a mail carrier. Retirement, however, could not slow Wayne down. He continued to serve his community by working in security at Wendy’s Corporate Office, bringing his signature dedication and friendly presence to work every day.
An avid sports fan, Wayne passionately cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He looked forward to every game and loved nothing more than rehashing the plays, analyzing the outcomes, and sharing the stories with his sons. When he wasn't watching the pros, Wayne could often be found out on the golf course, enjoying a round in the fresh air. He also enjoyed playing co-rec softball for more than 25 years, building lasting friendships and countless memories on and off the field.
Above all his achievements, Wayne’s greatest joy was taking care of his family and helping anyone in need. His children and granddaughters were the center of his universe. As a Poppy, he was active, involved, and entirely devoted. His profound love for his granddaughters was permanently captured on his inside forearm, where he wore tattoos of his affectionate nicknames for them, "Angel" and "Sunshine," ensuring they were close to his heart at all times. Wayne was simply a good man, a great friend, and a wonderful, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Per Wayne’s wishes, a memorial/celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wayne's memory to Tap Cancer Out. His granddaughter, Makenzie Belcher, is actively raising funds for this cause in loving memory of her late father, Jason Belcher.
