Jacqueline K. Morton's Obituary
MORTON
Jacqueline “Jackie” Keogh Morton, age 95, passed away September 30, 2021. Jackie was born on April 30, 1926 in Bayonne, NJ, to the late Frederick and Ida (Binschi) Keogh. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School, Caldwell, NJ, in 1944. She attended college at Montclair State Teachers College in Montclair, NJ.
The 1950s saw Jackie move to Columbus where she settled in Clintonville, a neighborhood she loved and in which she resided until her passing. Jackie enjoyed a variety of occupations that connected her with people. She was the Midwest Representative for Judith McCann Jewelry Designers of Manhattan (1955-62), worked in the Programming Department at WTVN-TV (1963-1967), and was an integral part of Promotions at WBNS-TV starting in 1968 and retiring in 1992
.
Never one to sit idle, Jackie was a member of the Columbus Swiss Club for more than 50 years and President of the club’s Edelweiss Damenchor from 1994-1996. She was one of the founding committee members of Picnic with the Pops. She also volunteered with March of Dimes, Columbus International Festival and Recreation Unlimited. For more than 70 years, Jackie was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Her devotion resulted in her becoming a lay minister, where she ministered to others by serving communion.
Friends and family will always remember Jackie as a woman who was “dressed to the nines” and an enthusiastic participant in life. She was always up for spending time with family, going on outings with her many loyal friends, traveling cross country with her two sisters, cheering on the Buckeyes, digging in her beautiful garden and working out—until the age of 94—at the McConnell Heart Health Center.
Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her sister Joan. She is survived by the daughter she loved dearly, Kelly (Gil) Godshall, her granddaughter Alexis (Will) Moore and her sister, Kay Keogh Nicola.
Jackie would encourage us to have faith, laugh when we can, and extend ourselves in kindness to others. She would want everyone to raise a glass of scotch in honor of a life well lived.
Due to current conditions, a celebration of life will be held in the spring. Jackie will be interred in her home state of New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mobile Stroke Unit via the Columbus Firefighters Foundation at www.columbusfirefightersfoundation.com or 379 W. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
