Jacqueline E. LaMuth's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jacqueline Ellenor LaMuth, age 77, on July 28,2025. Her lifetime friend and partner, Daniel J. Furey, was with her at the time of her death.
Jackie, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was born on May 19,1948 in Painesville, OH and graduated in 1966 from Riverside High School. Jackie attended Bowling Green State University where she was initiated into the Beta Mu chapter of Delta Gamma Fraternity. Transferring to the Ohio State University, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences/ Economic Teacher Education followed by a Masters of Science degree in Home Economics Education. In 2006, Jackie received her Doctor of Philosophy in Human and Community Resource Development
from Ohio State.
Jackie's professional career started in 1971 as a 4-H agent in home economics with the Washington County Extension Service. For 43 years, she worked with the Ohio State University Extension Agency at the County, State and University levels, retiring in 2014 as an Associate Professor at Ohio State. During her accomplished career, Jackie served as SWACO Board Chairman (Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio), Franklin County Energy Management Board and held many other leadership roles, in addition to writing numerous publications for 4-H research and the Ohio Cooperative Extension Agency.
Jackie will always be remembered as a respected scholar and extension professional, but it was her many hobbies and activities, as well as her remarkable wit, that spotlighted her zest for life. Music was at the heart of her existence and on many evenings and weekends, she would travel with her fellow musicians to entertain all ages with songs from the past. She was a gifted singer and played the banjo and bass with several noted folk music groups, including a twelve-year involvement with "Loosely Strung". She embraced her love of sailing and snorkeling on Lake Erie and was a certified boating member of the
Hoover Sailing Club. As a counselor for Ohio 4-H Sea Camp at Kelleys Island, Jackie interacted with hundreds of young people and loved giving them the opportunity to learn about aquatic science and sailing, and to experience a variety of recreational watersports. An avid gardener and a seasoned landscaper, everyone turned to Jackie for advice and suggestions on flowers, shrubs and trees. In addition, she had a passion for rocks, minerals and everything related to geology. She
enjoyed collecting rocks and traveled near and far to go out in the fields and discover her treasures.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Henry Frances LaMuth, her mother, Ione Williams LaMuth, and her sister, Jo Ann LaMuth. She is survived by her brother, Henry Lewis LaMuth (Roxanne), and nieces Hillary LaMuth Fehr (Chris), Sarah LaMuth Levy (Jeremy), Lindsey Stearns Meissner (Michael) and Dana Jacqueline Stearns (Chris Jamal), in addition to Jacob, Trevor, Zoey, Ava, Graham, Evelyn, Lydia and Daphne who adored their "Aunt Jackie". Lastly, Jackie is survived by a vast
network of friends, colleagues and admirers whose love, kindness and generosity over the years will never be forgotten by her family.
A private family ceremony will be scheduled in the future to celebrate Jackie's life. In lieu of flowers being sent to honor Jackie, she encourages you to buy flowers for yourself or give flowers to someone you love.
