Christopher Lee Heller's Obituary
Christopher Lee Heller—known to everyone as Chris—passed away peacefully at the age of 49, surrounded by the people who loved him most. Born on September 2, 1976, in Columbus, Ohio, Chris lived a life guided by kindness, humility, and an endless love for others.
Chris had a way of putting everyone else first. He gave generously, listened without judgment, and cared deeply, never asking for anything in return. Being around him made you feel seen, supported, and truly valued. His compassion was quiet but powerful, and it stayed with you long after any conversation ended.
Family meant everything to Chris. He was a devoted son, father, partner, and friend, and nothing made him happier than simply being there for the people he loved—whether that meant lending a hand, offering encouragement, or just showing up when it mattered. Through the way he lived, he showed everyone around him what real selflessness looks like.
Chris absolutely loved dogs. He had a soft spot for them that anyone who knew him recognized right away. Whether he was stopping to say hello on a walk or just sitting quietly with one nearby, he treated dogs with the same patience and kindness he showed everyone else. They trusted him instinctively, and he loved them right back, finding simple joy in their companionship and unconditional love.
Chris is survived by his parents, Margy and Roger Heller; his partner, Debbie Wittkop; and his stepdaughter—though in every way that mattered, simply his daughter—Olivia Wittkop. They, along with so many others, carry forward the love and compassion he so freely gave.
Chris will be deeply missed, but his impact lives on in the countless lives he touched. The world is better for having had him in it, and his kindness will continue to echo in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held this spring at Prairie Oaks Metro Park, a place that meant a lot to Chris. It was one of his favorite spots to hike, whether he was out alone, walking with his puppies, or spending quiet time there with his partner. Gathering in a place he loved feels like the right way to honor him—surrounded by nature, fresh air, and the sense of peace he always found on those trails.
