William Robert Hamilton's Obituary
William "Bill" Robert Hamilton, age 63, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous yet difficult battle with cancer.
Born on December 11, 1962, in Euclid, Ohio, to William and Margaret Hamilton, Bill graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in South Euclid, Ohio in 1981. He attended Kent State University before beginning his career in the maintenance and construction trades, earning his Journeyman license as an electrician. Bill worked proudly at The Ohio State University for 20 years before his retirement, where he was respected by colleagues for his humor, work ethic, and dedication.
A gifted artist, Bill had a remarkable talent for drawing, primarily working in pencil. His artwork graces the homes of many family members and friends, and he generously created custom designs for those he loved—from decorative chests and dog bowls to business logos and tattoos. Bill was truly both an artist and an artisan.
Bill was passionate about sports, cheering his whole life for the Cleveland Guardians and Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed golfing, live music and spending time outdoors. His favorite destinations included Las Vegas, Geneva-on-the-Lake, Yellow Springs, and the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky.
More than anything, Bill cherished time spent with his family, friends, and beloved pets—the activity itself mattered far less than the company he kept.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette Hamilton; his sons, Michael Hamilton (Emma) and Alec Hamilton (Lauren); brother-in-law, Carey (Cathy) Hamilton; nieces, Megan Hamilton, Morgan Kaliszewski, and Lia Murray; nephew, Ian Murray; and many dear cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Hamilton; and sisters, Maureen Hamilton and Margaret "Peggy" Murray.
A devoted dog lover, Bill leaves behind his loyal companion, Steely, and is reunited across the Rainbow Bridge with the many beloved dogs who preceded him.
Bill's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family kindly asks for no gifts or donations. However, for those who feel compelled to honor Bill's life through a charitable contribution, donations to the Humane Society or a local animal shelter would have brought joy to his heart.
No immediate services are planned. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Central Ohio at The Ohio State University Medical Center for their exceptional care, compassion and kindness during Bill's final days.
