Ronald "Ron" Eugene Cherry's Obituary
Ronald (Ron) Eugene Cherry, a U.S. Navy veteran, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at his home in Galloway, Ohio. Ron was born March 25, 1944. Ron was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Ron served in the US Navy from 1964-1970 aboard the USS Norfolk during the Vietnam era in the Philippines. After leaving the Navy, Ron went on to a career in the printing industry until his retirement. Ron found joy and fulfillment in various hobbies, including cruising, cooking, and traveling. He had a deep appreciation for classical music, which brought him moments of tranquility and inspiration. Ron was also an avid Ohio State football fan, never missing a football Saturday with his family.
Ron held his family close to his heart, leaving behind a legacy of love. He cherished his beloved wife of 38 years, Marica (Ric) Cherry. They had a large family with 9 children: Michael (Kathleen) Cherry, Ronald Cherry Jr., John (Heather) Cherry, Bill (Nicole) Cherry, Tony (Deirdre) Cherry, Scott (Tabitha) Templin, Keith (Michelle) Templin, Teri Bennett and Amanda (Tyrone) Laney, 29 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Dorothy Cherry, sister Karen, and brothers Paul Sr., David, Kenneth, and Joseph. He is survived by his siblings Lee Cherry, Helen Sosebee and Norman Cherry.
The family welcomes anyone wishing to pay their respect to attend a celebration honoring Ron’s life on Saturday, September 30th, held at The Church Next Door, located at 5755 Feder Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43228. The family will receive guests from 10-11 with a service and lunch reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Down Syndrome Association Buddy Walk in honor of grandson, Carter William Cherry.
