Richard "Dick" Phillip Tyree's Obituary
Richard Phillip Tyree, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 9th, 2023 at home. Born on October 26th, 1940, in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of Curtis Tyree and Catherine (Yakus) Tyree.
After graduating from Dover High School, Dick enlisted in the United States Army, where he earned a good conduct metal. He served abroad from 1958-1962 and attended machinist training while enlisted. He worked as a machinist at various companies for over 50 years.
He was a member of the Church of the Messiah in Westerville, Ohio where he assisted with communion and participated in many church charity drives. He was a previous member of both the Eagles and Elks as well as a girls softball coach and an assistant Girl Scout leader. In addition to being a life-long Steelers fan, he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a voracious reader.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Delpha, his two daughters, Dawn Tyree (Joseph Thompson) and Donna Hersch (TJ Hersch). And the light of his lives, his two granddaughters Avery & Riley Hersch. He also held a special place for his four-legged grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Wilson, brother and sister-in-law Kirby & Blanche Tyree and sister-in-law Donna Matheny. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Dick loved his family above all else and time with them was the most important. He spent many nights playing cards, laughing, sharing family dinners, taking trips, and attending his granddaughter’s many activities. He will be missed more than anyone can say, and he will be remembered as a loving, gruff, and guiding presence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund (Corolla, NC) or the Franklin County Humane Society.
