A co-author of three books with Richard, I remember him as both a kind and gentle soul and as a first-class scholar of integrity and common sense. He lived by his favorite motto: Ockham's Razor.

Professor Hamilton was the best teacher I ever had. What he taught me at McGill in the early ‘80’s has stayed with me to this day. He taught me and others to be thorough and critical in our thinking. I was very fortunate to have him as a teacher. My sympathies to his family for their loss.
As a travel agent, I had the good fortune of planning many trips for Irene and Dick. I enjoyed practicing my limited German with Irene. We became good friends frequently sharing stories over lunch and a glass of wine. Sincere condolences to you Irene and your sons.
Greetings from Lory Doolittle, Virginia Chaney's daughter. I have many great memories of delicious dinners in Dick and Irene's beautiful home in Upper Arlington when I would visit Columbus. My memories also include hearing their voices in concert at various times and venues. Dick and Irene were imortant and dear friends to my mother. My sympathy, Lory
Enjoyed visiting with Richard at FCV. He occasionally sat and played cards or games with me and my mother and always had a book in his hand. He was very kind and had a quick wit. He will be missed.
My deepest sympathy to Irene and family.

I savored Dick's dry wit & erudition in CSO chorus and at concerts around
Cols. He took the long view , like Chinese leader Chou-en Lai, who when
asked in 1970s about long-term effects of French Revolution replied,' It's too soon to tell.'
I'll keep him in sacred music remembrance. Best, Bill Catus
