Richard Alan Dunmire's Obituary
Richard Alan Dunmire fell asleep in death April 12th, 2026, at Grant Hospital with family at his side. He was born on July 17th, 1953, in Zanesville, Ohio to Melvin K Dunmire and Gertrude E Dunmire. He is survived by his true love of over 51 Years, Nancy Zoe Porter Dunmire. They were married on October 12th, 1974, and Richard proved to be a loving, tender and devoted husband who always put Nancy's needs ahead of his own.
He was a proud father of two children, Richard Anthony Dunmire and his wife Heather Dunmire and Natasha Marie Redman and her husband Travis Redman. He had deep love for his two grandchildren, Nicholas Anthony Dunmire and his wife Sydney and Kasey Nicole Dunmire.
He was proceeded in death by his father Melvin K Dunmire in 1973 and his mother Gertrude E Dunmire in 2003
Richard had three siblings. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Jones and her husband Robert. He was proceeded in death by his brother William Dunmire and his wife Jean and his sister Nancy Rose. He was a caring uncle to many nephews and nieces.
Richard was an attentive and supportive friend to many that he got to know over the years.
He graduated from Maysville High School in 1971 and proceeded to attend Columbus Technical Institute, now known as Columbus State, and studied in the information technology and electronics engineering field. He worked with these skills for over 45 years, finally retiring from the OSU medical center in 2012.
Richard's life was changed for the better when a coworker shared a thought from the bible book of Psalms at chapter 83 verse 18. There it mentions Gods personal name, Jehovah. From that day forward, his focus was on learning more about Jehovah and sharing those truths with others. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 21st, 1976. He enjoyed serving as an elder, which gave him the chance to help and encourage others. He served in many different responsibilities in the congregation but regardless of what his assignment was, he was diligent at it and found joy in serving others. He enjoyed giving public discourses in many congregations around Ohio. He served with the Local Design Committee serving as a skills interviewer and enjoyed getting to know many friends that way. He especially enjoyed sharing the bibles message with people, even sharing as a regular pioneer for several years. He did this in many varying situations, some in prison, by phone or letter, and door to door. Even in his last days of life, he would share the good news with nurses and hospital staff.
Richard enjoyed many interests and hobbies throughout the years. As a younger man he was a Ham radio operator and enjoyed talking with people in far flung parts of the world. Richard and his son Richie enjoyed spending time collecting autographs of baseball players and watching baseball and other sports. Richard spent time with Natasha collecting stamps which he picked back up later in life. He enjoyed fishing with family and watching sports including his late in life interest of NASCAR.
Richard loved vacationing with Nancy. They enjoyed many cruises and multiple trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach. They had the privilege of attending two international conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses in South America which were a source of joyful memories till his death.
Richard was a man of faith that was confident that even though death may separate us today, that his God, Jehovah, will prove to be the God of comfort for all of us now, and restore his life in the future.
A Memorial service will be held April 25th at 2pm at the Circleville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 23341 OH-104 Circleville Ohio 43113.
