Matthew Jay George's Obituary
Matthew Jay George of Canal Winchester and formerly from Lima, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022, at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Matt was born on May 22, 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Joyce (Stepek) George.
Matt was employed by the Columbus City Schools at Yorktown Middle School as an educator. He coached girls basketball, softball and volleyball, as well as varsity volleyball at Walnut Ridge High School. His most recent accolade was his academic team winning a city-wide competition. Matt also taught in Jacksonville, Florida. While in Lima, Matt coached baseball for the Lima Legion Post #96 and was employed by the Allen County Engineer’s office.
Matt graduated from Bath High School, Nova Southeastern University and Grand Canyon University.
To say Matt was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and The Ohio State University Buckeyes fan is an understatement. He also followed his nieces and nephews in every sport in which they participated or coached.
Matt is survived by his siblings: Mike (Ronda) George, Lima; Tony (Nancy) George, Canal Winchester; Nick George, Lima; Shelly (Doug) Sanders, Lima; Lisa McClellan, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, along with many loving nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
