Mary Belle Dutton's Obituary
Mary Belle Dutton, 84, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away on June 19, 2023, after a hard-fought
battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born to Roy Alvin Karnes and Rosie Nell Karnes, on February 1, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio.
After graduating from South High School, she went on to study at The Ohio State
University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. She loved her work as a Kindergarten teacher and taught for 30 years in Columbus Public Schools.
Mary loved God, spoiling grandchildren, live music, euchre, traveling, ancestry research with her sister, corny romance novels, dancing, bull-fighting in her backyard (that’s a whole other
story), gardening, Yellowstone, rom-coms, ice cream, and bragging about her daughters. She made the best macaroni salad, mashed potatoes, pork chops, and meatloaf on earth.
Mary met Charles (Chuck) Dutton at the age of 15 while he was on a date with another girl at
a barn dance, a story she loved to tell. They were married in 1957 having 56 wonderful years together and resided mostly in Harrisburg, Ohio. As the self-proclaimed co-leaders of our “inheritance spending committee”, they loved to travel together on so many amazing adventures, including the time they lived in Germany while Chuck was stationed there. They returned home to spend the rest of their life building their family.
Mary is preceded in passing by her parents, her loving husband, Chuck, Uncle Wayne, Aunt Brownie, and her granddaughter Raven (Dingman).
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Melissa (Ray) Dingman and Jennifer (Mark)
Hunt. Mary is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Izzy Dutton-Dingman, Charlie Hunt, Max Hunt, Forrest Hunt, Jax (Lil) Klein-Hunt; sister, Nancy (Tom) Snashall, niece Mary (Patrick) Payne, nephew Jon (Tina) Snashall; sister-in-law Mary Ezell, nieces Cheryl Parker and Karen Williams. She is survived by many others and will be severely missed by her best friend since 3rd grade, Joyce Wilson, and the many friends she gathered over the years.
Services will be held at Grove City United Methodist Church (2684 Columbus Street) in Grove
City, Ohio at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023, followed with a Celebration of her life
potluck that will be held at Ray and Melissa’s at 3:00 p.m. the same day.
