Mary Carey's Obituary
Mary Carey, longtime Worthington resident, passed away on July 17, 2020. She was preceded in death by 24 days by her husband of 76 years, Ken. Mary was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 26, 1922. She spent most of her childhood in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Her parents, John and Metta Williams, as well as her brothers, John and Lester, preceded her in death. After Mary and Ken were married during wartime in 1943, they began a family that grew to 8 children. Their journey eventually took them to Worthington in the early 1960s where they lived the rest of their years. Mary was a member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church and former Deacon. Through this, she volunteered significate time with the elderly residents of Stafford Village. Mom was an extraordinary mother, seamstress, baker, and gardener. The Worthington Garden Club made note of the collection of roses in her yard with many honors, and her homemade sweet rolls were a welcome gift to all at Christmas time. Mary is survived by her children, Linda (Andy) Anderson, John (Diane), Donna Savage, Robert (Karen), Mary Carey Gray, Ruth Carey (Jim) Schader, Ken (Patti), and Doug (Carol Mapes). Surviving grandchildren, Karen (Alex) Hyder, Bob (Beth) Anderson, Susan (Gerald) Lefebvre, Mike (Theresa) Carey, Carolyn (Jim) Rogers, Julie (Vince) Wright, Colleen Carey, Sean (Stephanie) Savage, Jim Savage, Dan (Kelly) Savage, Michelle Gray, Amanda Gray, Erin (Jay) Bryner, Colin (Laura) Runkle, John Carey, Kevin Carey, Bryan (Kaitlyn) Carey, Sarah (Brian) Sleboda, Kyle (Alex) Carey, and Liza Carey. Also surviving are 32 great grandchildren. A gathering in memory of Mary and Ken is being planned for the weekend of August 29-30.
