Marvin W. Darby's Obituary
Marvin (Sept. 23, 1936-May 18, 2024), age 87, was the son of Edith Lucile and Ira Graham. He retired from AEP and became a docent at the Columbus Zoo for many years earning the nickname Manatee Marv. He took many zoo trips worldwide to enjoy wildlife but his passion was the manatees, his favorite being Dundee. He eventually moved to Florida part time to participate in manatee rescue and release activities.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Harriet (Pat); daughter, Dawn (Eric) Wasson; son, Mike (Lori) Darby; and five grandchildren, Matthew (Liz) Jackson, Ethan (Krysta) Wasson, Rachel (Ricardo) Wasson Martinez, Benton (Abigail) Wasson and Katelyn Darby. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Seth, Caden, Tayler, Maggie Wasson, Cheyenne, Jagger, Gunner Jackson, Raylan, Maverick and Liam Wasson; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends John and Kathy Cookman.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark; grandson, Daniel Jackson; siblings, Charles (Charlotte) Darby and Dorothy (Paul) West.
The family wishes to thank Generations Hospice and Sharonbrook Assisted Living for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to Generations Hospice or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
