Mariam Sarah Kashner's Obituary
ADRIAN - Mariam Sarah Kashner passed from her earthly life to rest January 18, 2023
at the age of 92 years. She was born on November 23, 1930 in Donora, Pennsylvania, the
child of Abraham and Ethel (Gwynne) Ruben. Mariam is preceded in death by: her
parents, her husband John “Sy” Kashner; her son John David Kashner; brothers; Kenneth
Ruben, Jack Ruben, & Abraham “Buzz” Ruben.
A graduate of Donora High School, Mariam went on to receive her BA from Grove City
College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. After college, while working as a teacher at
Cardinal High School in Middlefield, Ohio, she met fellow teacher John “Sy” Kashner,
and they were married on June 15, 1957 in Donora, Pennsylvania.
Mariam also worked at the American Society of Metals in Geauga County, Ohio and
Maurice Spear Campus in Adrian, Michigan. She was a member of the Red Hats and
American Association of University Women (AAUW). She loved to read and was part of
a book club for over 25 years.
Mariam is survived by her children: Martha Kashner, Charles Kashner (Gary
Wasserman); grandson Colton Kashner; daughter-in-law Karen Kashner, a sister, Martha
(Richard) Lumley; a cousin, Elias “Eli” (Betty) Ruben. Mariam was very much loved by
her extended family including her nieces, nephews and several close friends.
Please join us on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 11:30am for Mariam’s memorial
celebration. To be followed by a concert & brunch from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at Farver’s at
the Croswell Opera House, 129 East Maumee Street, Adrian, MI 49221. In honor of
