Margaret Norman Tipple's Obituary
Margaret Norman Tipple, 75, of Columbus, Ohio died January 29, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield OH to the late William E. and Marguerite Norman and graduated from Catholic Central High School. She was a 1967 graduate of the Saint Francis School of Nursing in Columbus and completed her BSN, Summa Cum Laude at Ohio University in 1982. She was a registered nurse at Ohio State University Hospital, The Columbus Development Center, Franklin County MR & DD, before starting a career in 1982 as a medical case manager at Crawford & Company and Gates McDonald. In 1989 she formed Insurance Rehabilitation Services and provided services to insurers throughout the United States as well teaching certification courses for others in the field. She retired in 1998.She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Elizabethan Guild, and Boy Scout merit badge counselor and Troop 433 Treasurer. She also volunteered on the political campaigns of Betty Montgomery and Ted Celeste. She is survived by Robert, her husband of 54 years, son Jason (fiancé, Cindy Dasbach), grandsons Ryan and Owen, sisters Patti of Fredericksburg VA, Billie of Austin TX, Mary Kay of Lima OH, Rosemary of Menifee CA and brother William of Albuquerque NM, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She travelled all over the US on family camping vacations as a child and that love of travel and adventure continued into her adult years as she went to Russia, China, Ireland, Canada, England and Japan. She loved nursing and in the early eighties successfully twisted the arm of Willard Grizzell, then Superintendent of the Dublin School district to hire a fulltime school nurse. The student population then was less than 3,000 and utilized part-time nursing services from Franklin County. The extensively researched report that she created and presented did the trick. She didn’t want the job, she just wanted what was best for the students. Her other love was for libraries and specifically the Indian Run Elementary School Library Association while she served as its president. The association sold books to raise funds for the library, and she went so far as to swear out a warrant for the arrest of a person who paid for books with a fake check. She got the money back, but insisted on cash. She dealt bravely with cancer since 1999 and in 2010 before she was treated for a cancer that she later learned had an 80% mortality rate she started gathering ideas for her obituary. Two poems that she liked were: “I could not stay another day, to love, to laugh, to work or play; Tasks left undone must stay that way. And if my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy.” and: “If there is life beyond the grave, she lives in future bliss. If there is no life beyond the grave, she made the most of this.”The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the entire staff at the James Cancer Institute, and Stephanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center over the past two years. Their kindness and care gave her more time with us, and in her final days and hours at the James it’s hard to imagine any finer health care or compassion anywhere. No funeral will be held.
