Marcella Ann Spicer's Obituary
Marcella Ann Spicer, age 90, of Lithopolis, passed away on February 25, 2022, surrounded by family and the precious staff of Pickering House. Marcy was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 29, 1931, to Winifred (Cummins) Mellman and Charles Debus. Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Earl D. Spicer, and her brother, Robert Moore. Marcy is survived by daughter, Pam (Neil) Jarvis, and sons, Earl Spicer, Charles (Robin Henderly) Spicer, David Spicer, and grandchildren Lindsey (Zach) Hoffer, Drew (Carolyn) Oxley, Samantha (Sean) McVicker, Madison Spicer, Kelley Spicer, Ian Spicer and step grandchildren Rob (Jess) Jarvis and Katie (Steve) Monroe, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Marcy grew up in German Village and was a graduate of South High School. Her senior picture in her high school yearbook was labeled “she is sweet, and so petite.” She worked for Farm Bureau (present day Nationwide) setting up new offices in White Plains, NY and Raleigh, NC. Her final job in Columbus was with Virginia Homes. Earl and Marcy raised their family in Pickerington when it was a small country town of 3 subdivisions. Many weekends and vacations were spent boating Buckeye Lake and Cumberland Lake. The dinner table talk included discussion of our soap opera family on “All My Children.” Marcy was affectionately known as Mommalucci, after Susan Lucci on the show, and also as Mutti once Chuck took German in high school. There was a time Marcy loved bingo, and a highlight of her life was appearing on Cash Explosion. Earl and Marcy moved to Florida in 1986, returning to central Ohio in 2006. They were members of various American Legions and Elks in Florida and Ohio and the Reynoldsburg Senior Center. She loved chocolate, her family and friends, The Ohio State University sports, and playing euchre, probably in that order. Everyone who knew her remarked how sweet she was, unless they played cards with her. Then she had another affectionate nickname, Dragon Mutti. Attending C3 Church was a favorite thing for her to do once she was back in Central Ohio. A celebration of Marcella’s life will be held from 10-11am Saturday March 26, 2022 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 133 W. South Street, Lithopolis, Ohio 43136. In remembrance of Marcy’s life, The family asks that any charitable donations be made to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130-3461. The care at Pickering House as she went to be with the Lord was angelic and appreciated.
