Lela Marie Chandler-Curtis' Obituary
Lela Marie Chandler-Curtis (Sue) transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 83. Lela was born on January 19, 1943, in Lowell, OH. She was the youngest daughter of Dewey and Alpha Chandler.
Lela professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at the Church of Christ in Parkersburg, WV. She later joined Saint Paul AME church in Zanesville, OH. During her later years, she would visit Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church in Columbus, OH, with her daughter.
Lela was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many whom she loved unconditionally. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, cooking, true crime TV, and a never-ending cycle of redecorating her home.
For many years, Lela worked for Brooks Homes and later retired from ARC Industries / Bixby Living Skills. Throughout much of her career, she provided loving support to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Lela was preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters Irma Armstrong, Vivian Scott, and Inez Mayle; brothers Gerald Chandler and her twin brother, Leland Chandler.
Left to cherish her memory: her children; David Curtis, Lisa Mincks, Melissa Curtis, Mark Curtis, Patrick Curtis, Michelle Curtis-Oates (George), Christina Curtis, and Erin Curtis. 20 grandchildren; Danielle, Eli, Emily, Nicole, Tatum, Wesley, Nathaniel Jr, Jonathan, Haleigh, Landry, Matthew, Kendra, Chandler, Daniel, Jordan, Isaiah, Andrew, Layla, Emma, Landon, and 17 great grandchildren.
Lela was a mentor to many and recognized them as family. Special mention to Bridgette Brock, Ricky Smith (Elizabeth), Rita Thomas, KaJana Mendenhall, and Randol Trail.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held for Lela at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church, located at 3415 El Paso Dr., Columbus, OH 43204.
