Larry "Lock" D. Moore's Obituary
Larry (Lock) D. Moore, 78 of Choctaw Lake, Ohio died peacefully on May 26, 2026, with his wife and daughter by his side. Lock was born in Columbus on July 10, 1947, to Delbert and Louise who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by six siblings, he has one brother, Kenny Moore who survives him.
Describing Lock is difficult, those who knew him and loved him understand this. He was unapologetically himself, larger than life, with a uniqueness all his own. He had a lifelong love for Harley Davidson motorcycles that started as a teenager. He always had a Harley, often several, and could build one from a pile of parts, though it was a long running joke that he bought a new Harley every year. He loved to ride his motorcycle and rode until this year.
As a young man Lock was an outlaw literally and figuratively, he was in the Outlaws Motorcycle Club from 1965-1974, he spent the following years on the west side of Columbus, owning a bar and never truly settling down. Lock was fortunate to have many close friendships lasting 40, 50, and even 60 years. His friends loved him through each phase of his life.
Lock met his wife Penny in 1987, an unlikely pair, they tested all the wedding vows to the extreme. They figured it out and their love endured. At the age of 41 Lock became a father to his daughter Lauren Whitney. This defined the remainder of his life and was the role of which he was most proud. Lauren was his favorite person and spending time with her was always a priority. Decades before the term “girl dad” became popular Lock was an extraordinary girl dad, tea parties, games, sledding, and countless hours of volleyball. There were several years as a family filled with power boating and camping on the Ohio River. Lock was a lifelong animal lover, especially his dogs. He usually had a small dog on his lap and a large dog at his feet.
Lock started LPL trucking in 1989 and was a successful business owner until his retirement in 2016. Initially diagnosed with cancer in 2016, Lock underwent surgeries and radiation then largely ignored any notion of having cancer. Through cancer recurrences he remained active and young at heart. No longer working, he focused on supporting Penny, building a house at the lake, riding his motorcycle, taking care of his dogs, and being with family. He loved being Papa to Jaxson Lock and Harper Rose, he saw them as often as possible and loved family vacations.
Lock will be missed by many, especially his wife of 38 years, Penny, his daughter Lauren, and grandchildren Jaxson Lock and Harper Rose. We are extremely grateful that Jaxson and Harper have had their Papa’s love for the last 10 years.
Helen and Mark, Bob and Cindy, thank you for your love and support always, especially over the last year. Nick, the father of our grandchildren, you allowed Lock to age with dignity with your presence and help. John, the friend he rode with most often, thank you for the trips to Florida that Lock loved so much.
Respecting Lock’s wishes, formal funeral services will not be held. He asked Penny to have a celebration with his close friends and family. Penny and Lauren are working on details and will share them in the next few weeks.
