Kenneth Elmer Carey's Obituary
Kenneth E. Carey passed away peacefully on June 23, 2020, two months shy of his 100th birthday. He was born August 30, 1920 in Watertown, South Dakota where he spent his childhood. Ken was a longtime Worthington resident where he moved his family in 1960. He was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Mae, as well as his siblings Bob, Marianne Sahli, and Marguerite Schmeckel. Ken was a proud veteran of World War II. After enlisting in the Air Force he had the tremendous fortune to participate in the U.S. Army band.His lifelong career in the insurance Industry, mostly at Lauterbach & Eilber, was his livelihood, but his passions were his family, faith, music, and gardening. Kens music included performances with the Cleveland Symphony, the chancel choir of his beloved Worthington Presbyterian Church, and The Worthington Community Band.Kens eight children and twenty grandchildren remember him for his support of their activities as well as his gift for life stories and lessons. Daily rides on the Olentangy bike trail, bird hunting, as well as golf with children and buddies were favorite recreational activities.He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mary. Also surviving are his children Linda Anderson(Andy), John(Diane}, Donna Savage, Robert(Karen), Mary Carey Gray, Ruth Carey Schader (Jim), Ken(Patti), and Doug (Carol Mapes). Surviving grandchildren include Karen Hyder (Alex), Bob Anderson (Beth), Susan Lefebvre (Gerald), Mike Carey (Theresa), Carolyn Rogers(Jim), Julie Wright(Vince), Colleen Carey, Sean Savage(Stephanie), Jim Savage, Dan Savage(Kelly), Michelle Gray, Amanda Gray, Erin Bryner(Jay), Colin Runkle(Laura), John Carey, Kevin Carey, Bryan Carey(Kaitlyn),Sarah Sleboda(Brian), Kyle Carey(Alex), and Liza Carey. Also surviving are 31 great grandchildren. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic a gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
