Karen Joan Lokhorst's Obituary
Karen Joan Lokhorst, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed on peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 85. Karen resided in the Memory Care unit at Inniswoods Village of Westerville, Ohio. Born on August 5, 1939, in Kohler, Wisconsin, to Kenneth and Viola Hyink, Karen lived a life filled with faith, love, and devotion to her family and community.
She was a longtime resident of Gahanna, Ohio, where she built a loving home alongside her devoted husband, Pastor Ronald Lokhorst, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Their love and partnership were a true example of faith and commitment, touching the lives of many.
Karen was a loving mother to Maryette (Paul) McKillip of Somers, Wisconsin, Lynnette (Donald) Reventlow of Gahanna, Ohio, and Brett (Teresa) Lokhorst of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to Vincent, Joseph (Cheryl), Jacob (Abby), Peter, Ryan, Jay, and Amy, and she was especially proud to be a great-grandmother to Rachel. She cherished every moment spent supporting her grandchildren, whether at soccer games, swim meets, or simply sharing time together.
Karen is also survived by her brothers, Paul (Judy) Hyink and Harlan (Ellie) Hyink, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her kindness, wisdom, and loving spirit.
A member of Central College Presbyterian Church, Karen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a previous member of the church choir, where she found great joy in singing. Karen also enjoyed her women’s breakfast group in Gahanna, cherishing the fellowship and friendships she built there. She had a deep love for gardening, bird watching, quilting, and doing puzzles always finding relaxation and joy in these activities. Her warmth and creativity were reflected in everything she did, from tending to her flowers to crafting cherished quilts for her loved ones.
Karen’s life was a testament to faith, family, and the joy of simple moments. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire those she held dear.
A Celebration of her Life and Faith will be held on March 29, 2025, at Central College Presbyterian Church in Westerville, Ohio. The family will receive friends at 10 AM with services at 11 AM. To honor her love of gardening, the family also invites friends and loved ones to plant a flower in her memory, celebrating her life and the beauty she brought to the world.
