Juliette Stucky Foster's Obituary
Juliette “Julie" S. Foster, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2021, at the Forum Bridge to Recovery Unit in Columbus, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” A. Foster in 2016. Julie was born on March 14, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan to the late George and Juliette (Bartholomew) Stucky. She graduated from Charlotte, MI High School in 1941 and attended Michigan State. She and Jack were married in Charlotte, MI on December 6, 1943. They were married for 72 years. While Jack served in World War II, Julie stayed in Michigan where she gave birth to her first son, David. The Fosters lived in Hastings, MI, Rockford IL, Tucson, AZ and Columbus, OH. Julie loved loved to read, all the time. For decades, she taught others to read as well as a volunteer for Laubauch Literacy in Rockford. Giving adult illiterates the ability to read to their children and accept advancement at work gave her great joy.
She was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church, helping found St. Anskar's Episcopal Church in Rockford, IL. She served on the Altar Guild at St. Anskar's and Christ the King Episcopal Church in Tuscon, AZ. She was a longtime seamstress, making her own and her daughter’s clothes for many years.
Julie is survived by children, David (Joanne) Foster, Columbus, OH, Sara (Louis) Oliveira, Portsmouth, RI, Matthew (Virginia) Foster, Columbus, OH and Craig (Kathy) Foster, Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Erica (Brian) Carlson, Amy (Greg) Adams, Jane Foster (Adam) Pessin, John Foster, Brian Foster, Benjamin Oliveira, Ella Oliveira, Maggie Foster, Hannah (Chris) Krause and Emily Kunda; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Josh, Isaac, Nathan, Emma, William, Ezra, Iris, Hawk, Ava, Matteson, Zoe, Jordan, Rhees, Juliette, Joshua, Elijah, Nylah, Daniel and Leah.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1003 W Town St, Columbus, OH on Thursday, December 2 at 3:30 PM. The service will also be offered online at https://zoom.us/j/916031543.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or a local literacy program.
