Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Frederick A and Eleanor M (Haag) Schaefer, infant baby brother, Ronnie, grandson, Matthew Hammond, and the father of her children Michael S West.Joyce’s career included being a secretary for different organizations like Nationwide Insurance and Bordon, Inc. and she owned her own business where she spent many a late night providing typing services to OSU students to type PHD Dissertations and Master Thesis papers. Her typing skills were so fast she was able to win a typewriter for typing more words per minute than other contestants. The last job of her career and one she enjoyed thoroughly was in the fitting room at the store Marshall’s and was known as “everyone’s mother”. If you asked though, Joyce would tell you that her most fulfilling jobs were raising her daughters and then caring for her mother and her aunt during the final years of their lives. If you knew Joyce, you knew she was the kindest, friendliest, faith-filled woman on earth. Her passion for animals ranged from her first poodle Corky, a number of rescue dogs and cats, a few ducks, even a goat named Abigail and lastly her beloved Bichon Suzy. She loved Bluegrass music, traveling, and cooking for her family. You could tell she loved to cook if you ever tasted her Chicken Noodle Soup, Apple Pie, or Beef Stew and she was always ready to share her recipes. She took promises seriously and was known for dropping what she was doing and going to help anyone who asked. Her unconditional love will be long remembered as the greatest gift she could give.Sadly in March 2018 Joyce was robbed of a normal life by a large stroke that left her paralyzed and kept her from communicating easily. The family would like to thank the staff at Pataskala Oaks Care center for taking care of her the past 4 years of her life as well as the staff of Mount Carmel East hospital for making her last day here comfortable. No memorial service is planned for right now. Donations should be directed to the charity of your choice or pay it forward as act of kindness to a stranger.
