John David Heeney's Obituary
John David “JD” Heeney, passed away May 12, 2021 at the age of 85. He was born in South Haven, Kansas, to David Geeslin Heeney and Mary Ellen (Burger) Heeney. JD was the only son, sandwiched between his sisters Mary Lou and Patricia. JD grew up surrounded by extended family and friends. He attended Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Mary E. Cooke. They were married in 1956. JD graduated in 1958 with a degree in accounting and was drafted into the US Army. He served in Military Intelligence and was honorably discharged as a 2nd lieutenant. JD then joined the Internal Revenue Service and spent 24 years as a special agent, retiring in 1986 as an undercover program manager. During his tenure with the IRS, JD volunteered to be one of the first sky marshals, President Nixon’s emerging program to prevent the highjacking of aircraft. He was assigned to TWA and traveled the world. After retirement, JD opened a private investigation agency with his long-time friend and former IRS agent, John “Jack” Walsh, specializing in financial and fraud investigations. JD retired from this second career at the age of 80.
