Jesse Eugene Groves' Obituary
Memorial Celebration of Life
Jesse Eugene Groves entered God’s embrace on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the age of 62 years old. He was born August 24, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky; one of eight children.
Preceded in death: Son, Jesse E. Groves Jr., Father, James C. Groves Sr., Mother, Fannie R. Washington, and Brother James C. Groves Jr., Sisters, Jackie Curtis, Brenda Richardson and Fiancé and companion of 43 years, Sheryl A. Bennett.
Left to cherish his memory: Son, James Groves and Daughter Aisha Ashby-Groves. Sister Barbara Groves, Brothers Rhuel Groves, Vincent Groves, and Dominique Groves. 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Devoted nephew Elijah V. Bennett.
Nicknamed “Fool Danny” by his siblings; Jesse attended and graduated from Pleasant Ridge High School in Louisville, Kentucky in 1978 where he was popular among his peers. Once Jesse reached early adulthood at 18 years old; he moved to Columbus, Ohio to pursue greater opportunities.
He found success in retail, becoming manager at Bakers Shoes, and a long term manager at Rite Rug Carpet and Flooring until his retirement.
Dedicated to The Body of Christ; Jesse was baptized in 2001 and ordained as Deacon in 2002 at Upper Room Deliverance Rhema Center. After the Lord sent Jesse to New Tabernacle Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith, he set on the Deacon Board under the guidance of Deacon James Brown, laying a foundation of faith, hope, love, and trust in God.
Jesse also had a overwhelmingly natural sense of humor with random wit. “Gut busting” laughter was always what he was after. So funny in fact; after and open mic session, he was invited to showcase his talent during Amateur Night at the Columbus Funny Bone. A sight to see and experience!
Jesse enjoyed Bingo, Kentucky Derby events, family BBQ’s, fish fries, and playing Bid Whist (know that you were sure to win if you “partnered up with him). Jesse loved his family dearly and immensely.
