Janet Carol Hill's Obituary
Janet Carol Hill, age 71, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully spread her wings to heaven on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 16, 2023, while surrounded by family at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She was born on April 11, 1952, in Athens, Ohio, to the late Myron and Hazel (Parsons) Hill.
Janet grew up in Guysville where she learned to embrace the small things in life, acquired an appreciation for nature, and saw beauty in all that was around her – sunrises and sunsets, a hint of blue sky peeking through the clouds, and birds perching in an old tree with the changing colors of autumn leaves. She was an independent, strong, and active young girl who loved being outside, sneaking into the woods, playing ball, and walking to her grandparents’ house. After graduating from Federal Hocking High School, Janet moved to Columbus where you would find her enjoying seasonal festivities, particularly the 4th of July fireworks at Red, White, and Boom. She adored the range of animals at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, with the Christmas Wildlights being one of her favorite events. Janet relished raising her son the most, spoiling him in the best of ways, and finding humor in his mischief with countless cousins and friends. She was exceptionally excited to welcome grandchildren into her life and cherished every opportunity to provide them with a foundation of love. Janet treasured being with her family and going “back home to the country” to celebrate any special day or family affair. She loved the Lord, had a sentimental spirit, and enjoyed collecting items from thrift stores, researching her family’s genealogy, dining with family and friends, holding all the babies, and playing with anyone’s dog, especially her own. Janet started her career at Motorists Mutual Insurance Company and went on to retire from Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. After retirement, Janet’s zest for life did not let her stay still and she took a part-time position at Roses Discount Store. Janet’s charisma was an inspiration to many, her laughter could light up anyone’s soul, and the impact of her presence will be felt for years to come as a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin, and dear friend.
Janet leaves to honor her memory one grandson, Aaron Hill, Jr.; two granddaughters, Nyla Stewart and Simiyah Stewart; a step-granddaughter, Kaylee Stewart; and their mother, Lenora Stewart, all of Columbus; a brother, Danny Hill, and sister, Peggy Bray, both of Guysville; a maternal uncle, Herbert (Barbara) Parsons, Jr., of Cutler; paternal aunts, Madlyn (Dave) Willis, of Gahanna; Betty Farley, Carolyn Hill, and Linda (Richard) Harris, all of Thornville; nephews, Derek (Felicia) Hill, of Columbus; Jared Hill, of Guysville; and Gregory Bray, Jr., of Milford; nieces, Candace Bray, of Guysville; Andrea Hill, of Athens; and Teela Hill, of Glouster; and numerous cousins and friends, including a special cousin, Alfred Farley, of Columbus. Janet also leaves behind her great-nephews, Gabrial Bray and Amir Stokes; and great-nieces, Kayliana Bray, Denise Stokes, Luna Handley, and Gabriella Hill.
In addition to her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her son, Aaron Hill; paternal grandparents, Clyde and Nancy Jane (Norris) Hill; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Mary Ann (Dalton) Parsons; and brother-in-law, Gregory Bray, Sr. What a glorious sight it must have been when they stood with Jesus and welcomed her at the Pearly Gates. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held in Southeast Ohio at a later date. Her ashes will also find their eternal resting place “in the country,” alongside her son and among other loved ones.
