James "Jim" Somers' Obituary
James “Jim” Somers, born August 25, 1958, in Seven Hills, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, at the age of 66. Defying the odds after being diagnosed with diabetes at just six years old, Jim exceeded all expectations, living a life rich in joy, creativity, and love for those around him. Jim’s career as an accomplished advisor and salesman in the computer industry allowed him to support his family, whom he cherished above all. Known for his tireless work ethic, he always sought the best for those he loved, providing stability and care throughout his life. He possessed a calm and charming demeanor that left a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to meet him. His warm brown eyes and genuine kindness will be remembered by all.
Outside of his professional life, Jim embraced his artistic side through woodworking, photography, and digital photo enhancement. His keen eye for detail turned ordinary scenes into works of art, with barns and landscapes being his particular favorites. Many of these photos found new homes on ETSY, and his own home was filled with his stunning creations, each a testament to his creativity and passion. Jim’s love for life extended to the simple joys of spending time with family and friends. He was always ready for a game night, where his competitive spirit shone through in his quest to best his loved ones at cards or board games.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Renée Somers (née Cauley), his beloved son, Andrew Somers, and his brothers, Chris and David Somers. He also leaves behind countless friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dolores Somers (née Karabinus), and his sister, Laura Sass (née Somers), who gave him the ultimate gift of life through a kidney donation that allowed Jim to live more fully for 18 years. Jim’s family will hold a Celebration of Life in January to honor his memory, a fitting tribute to a man who brought so much light and joy to those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you celebrate Jim’s life by enjoying a game with loved ones or by spending time in nature, appreciating the beauty he so often captured in his photography.
