James "Jim" Reese's Obituary
James “Jim” Reese, age 79, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on January 12, 2026.
The world lost a great person, and heaven gained a beautiful soul. Jim was known by so many as a kind and patient mentor who taught countless people so much and helped shape who they became. He never missed a chance to tell someone he loved them, and he lived a full life doing what he loved—sharing it all, all the time. Those who knew Jim will always remember his great sense of humor and his slightly ornery side that made him even more endearing.
Jim was an accomplished National Champion Hair Stylist, dedicating more than 60 years to his craft. He was a beloved teacher and mentor to hundreds of students; many of whom credit him with helping launch their careers and inspiring them to become the professionals they are today. Above all else, Jim loved his family deeply.
He was so many things to so many people — a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend — and each role was carried out with love, generosity, and heart.
Jim is survived by his children, Meggin Reese (Matt Reed), Heather Cartwright (Tom Cartwright), Stephanie Wood and their mother Mary Reese, Amy Heath (Marc Heath), and John Reese (Anne Reese) and their mother Charlotte Pierce, and his grandchildren, Adrienne Smith, Claire Reed, Tyler Wood, Zoe Wood, Reese Cartwright, Charlotte Heath, and Marcella Heath.
Jim’s legacy of kindness, artistry, mentorship, and love will live on in the many lives he touched.
