Isaac Wayne Ross' Obituary
Isaac Wayne Ross, 73, passed away December 15th, 2025.
Wayne was born March 28th, 1952 to Isaac Jason Ross and Nancy Gladys (Cordle) Ross in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He lived most of his life in the Sunbury/Big Walnut area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Chris and Russell Fry, sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Gordon Ulery, brother Donald Ross, and sister Janet Booth.
He is survived by children Jason (Emily) Ross, Justin (Chelsie) Ross, Jeremy “Mo” Ross, Josh Ross, and Jaclyn “Niki” Ross; as well as grandchildren Jake (Lauren Erickson) Ross, Riley Ross, Macy Ross, Tom Ross, Jesse Ross, Parker Ross, Weston Ross, Corbin Ross, Caroline Ross, and Ryland Ross; sister-in-law Nancy Ross, brother-in-law Pastor Wayne Booth, along with mothers of his children Diane Ross and Christina Ross, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved pug Gabby.
Wayne graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1970 and soon pursued a career in law enforcement, in which he most found his identity. During his career in law enforcement, he worked for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, Sunbury Police, and as a Special Investigator for the Delaware County Prosecutor. Over his life, he also worked for the Sunbury IGA, Western Electric, Buckeye Potato Chips, Ellis Brothers trucking, and Nestles. After retirement, he operated Ross and Sons handyman and lawn-care business.
During much of his life, Wayne enjoyed riding motorcycles with friends and family. He was a life-long fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and all Big Walnut Golden Eagles sports. Indeed as his health declined in his last months, talking about the Bengals, Reds, and Golden Eagles football were some of the things that gave him his most joy.
The family would like to give a special word of thanks to the wonderful staff at Countryview of Sunbury and Bella Care Hospice, who took great care of Wayne over his last year and a half.
A funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Delaware with Bishop Steve Lane officiating on February 28, 2026 at 10 AM with interment of ashes to follow at a later date in a service officiated by brother-in-law Pastor Wayne Booth at East View Cemetery in Centerburg at the site of his parents’ grave.
