Gloria Louise Werra's Obituary
Gloria L. Werra passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday morning, April 30, 2023 in Dublin, Ohio. Loving mother, aunt, and grandmother, she was 89 years old and beloved to all who knew her.
Gloria was born in lower Manhattan of New York City, NY on April 18, 1934 to Charles J. Bock, Sr. and Mary (Consiglio) Bock and enjoyed a spirited childhood with her younger sister Joan and brother Charles. Their family later moved permanently to Staten Island, NY where their family previously enjoyed summers in a cottage on Weed Ave. on the Island. Gloria was very smart and excelled in school, studied business in high school, and later became a Secretary and worked for the New York Telephone Company. She loved going to dances, and especially loved and followed the Roller Derby, becoming a close friend to Roller Derby Queen Mary Lou Palermo. She also enjoyed MLB Baseball and loved the New York Yankees and Dodgers. Gloria met the love of her life (Albert V.J. Werra, Jr.) at a local community dance and they married on June 9, 1956 and she later gave birth to their twin daughters, Marion and Linda. Gloria and Albert were happily married for over 25 years before Albert passed away in August of 1982. Gloria also worked in freight forwarding, working for Gaynar Shipping in the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.
Gloria moved to Binghamton, NY in 1985 to live with her daughter Linda and husband Gary, where she thrived and lived until 2000 before moving to the Columbus, OH area. She loved flowers, gardening, working outside in the landscape and watching sunsets at the log home! Gloria was a Christian with a heart of compassion and a very strong faith and was an active member of her church (First Assembly of God in Binghamton, NY, and Christian Community Church in Columbus, OH). She was known for her kindness, always reaching out to the lonely and hurting, and volunteering wherever needed, including at Friendship Village of Dublin. She was considered a loving mother figure, and everyone called her “Momma Werra”. Truly, to know her was to love her. Her favorite portions of scripture were The Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 23, which she lived by.
