Gloria A. Hanson's Obituary
In loving memory of Gloria A. Hanson April 22nd 1946-March 1st 2026
Gloria, cherished storyteller and historian of her family, passed away peacefully on March 1st 2026 at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Hanson Jr. Her ashes will be interred in New Orleans with her beloved.
She lived a rich and eventful life. At the age of 79 she could still tell you every detail of it in full and vibrant color. She had a rare talent, a gifted memory. Though she was preceded in death by many loved ones, her stories brought them back to life.
Her story began in New Orleans on April 22nd 1946. She was adopted into a loving home. She married and had her four children on the Westbank of New Orleans in the city of Westwego. She worked as a state employee for most of her life while raising her family. She was widowed young in 1991. But… that wonderful memory, the gift she had, kept her husband alive for their children. We are forever grateful.
Another great upheaval of an eventful life occurred in 2005. All of her Louisiana family remember hurricane Katrina. She lost her home and relocated to Columbus Ohio. She was embraced by her birth family and found a new home by her beloved sisters. In 2011 she received the greatest gift of her life, her 1st granddaughter. She was her everything.
Her twilight years were filled with great love. She formed close relationships with siblings and anyone she called family. Because family wasn't just blood, it was anyone she called her own.
She is survived by her children: David, Deborah, Dennis, Cassandra and Kailyn. Her granddaughters Lianna and Victorious. Sisters Rose and Martha. Many nieces and nephews in Ohio and Louisiana. Also extended surrogate family too many to name. Many called her Maw-Maw or Mamma G. Know that she loved you all. She will be greatly missed.
