Pastor George Robert Miller's Obituary
Pastor George Robert Miller was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Aug. 30, 2024, at age 76. Pastor George was looking forward to being with his Savior and being reunited with his friend and loving wife of 47 years, Martha J. “Marty” Miller whom he married on November 27, 1976. He is survived by children Joel C. Miller (Janet), Andrew P. Miller (Darcy Wilkins), and Christine M. Miller; grandchildren Henry D. Wilkins-Miller and Havalina I. Wilkins-Miller; brothers Dr. James C. Miller and John A. Miller, and sister Ann E. McDonough; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by parents Roy M. and Lucile C. Miller, grandson, Liam A. Miller, and sister, Sarah Jane Soika.
Pastor George served five congregations as Pastor over 38 years of Ministry: East Bethlehem Baptist Church, Fredericktown, PA; Northern Baptist Church, West Frankfort, IL; First Baptist Church, Zanesville, OH; First Baptist Church, Robinson, IL; and Big Darby Baptist Church, Plain City, OH. He was a 1966 graduate of Kennett High School (Kennett Square, PA), received a BA from the University of Delaware in 1970, and his MDiv degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now Palmer Seminary) in 1975. He was a long-time member of the Sons of the American Revolution; having served as President of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter, Ohio Society.
Ordained to the pastoral ministry by the First Baptist Church of Kennett Square, PA in 1974, where he also met his Savior and committed his life to serving Him; Pastor George loved to preach the Word of God and share the truth of the Scriptures and the love of Jesus Christ with the Lord’s people. The Word of God is clear that there is no other way to heaven except through faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice upon the cross alone. Jesus said: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:13, NIV); “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NIV). Paul teaches us that a relationship with Christ is key through faith because works don’t earn salvation but flow from it: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-10, NIV) It was Pastor George’s wish that all will come to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by God’s grace through faith.
In retirement, he and Marty resided in the Lake Wylie, SC area and attended First Baptist Church, Clover, SC., until health issues forced them to move back closer to family in Ohio.
