George Earlin Courtney's Obituary
George Earlin Courtney, age 80, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2025 at Grant Medical Center.
Born on November 17, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio, George was the son of the late Harold Joe Courtney and Claudia Virginia Courtney (née Hazlett). He proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967, including active duty in Vietnam as a member of the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment.
In 1998, George earned both an Associate of Applied Business and an Associate of Technical Studies from Hocking College. He worked for many years as a professional truck driver, known for his strong work ethic and quiet determination.
George was also a man of deep faith and compassion. In recent years, he was actively involved in Kairos Prison Ministry, frequently coordinating the collection of thousands of homemade cookies to be distributed to inmates during weekend retreats. He also willingly and openly shared his own testimony, offering hope and encouragement to those incarcerated. He was the embodiment of a life truly changed by Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by three children, many dear friends, and his beloved canine companion, Ava, whom he adopted from the Franklin County Dog Shelter and cherished deeply.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Lancaster, Ohio. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio.
George’s life was one of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a deep love for Christ and others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
