Edith Paula "Dee-Dee" Poelzing's Obituary
Edith Paula (Dee-Dee) Poelzing, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (oma), aunt, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully in Columbus, OH on December 23, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on July 22, 1947 in Batavia, NY. Edith lived a life characterized by faith, service, and an adventurous spirit.
Edith is survived by her devoted husband, Dietmar Gerhard Poelzing; her children, Dietmar Paul Poelzing (Michele) and Renata Norris (John); her grandchildren, Joshua Poelzing, Alana Poelzing, and Elise Norris; her sister, Marlisa Kalb (Robert), and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Edith Kies: and her brother Paul Kies.
On September 20, 1970, she married the love of her life, Dietmar Poelzing, and together they built a life filled with laughter, partnership, and unwavering support. Their marriage was a true example of enduring love.
Edith's dedication to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She served her church community tirelessly as a choir director and singer, Sunday school teacher and was known for her beautiful floral arrangements that adorned the church and altar. Her commitment to her calling was perhaps most evident in her courageous decision to move to Hawaii in 1971 to establish the New Apostolic Church there with her husband, embarking on this adventure with nothing but her faith and determination.
Throughout her life, Edith faced challenges with grace and fortitude. She was a long-term survivor of Nasopharyngeal Cancer which required massive doses of radiation therapy in 1974. Later in life she battled the side effects of the radiation courageously. She maintained her positive outlook and service to others through this difficult ordeal. Her resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Edith's love for her family and community was often expressed through her culinary talents. She was renowned for her ability to create delicious meals for large groups, seemingly out of thin air. Her signature dishes like Rouladen were always eagerly anticipated at gatherings.
Her life was a testament to the power of faith, the importance of community, and the strength of the human spirit. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, service, and adventure will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at New Apostolic Church, 23 Morse Rd, Columbus, OH 43214 on January 31, 2026 at 11:00 am.
