Donald Edgar Smith's Obituary
Donald Edgar Smith, 85, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with kidney disease and dementia on December 11, 2024.
He was born in January 1939 in Uniontown, PA and preceded in death by his parents Edgar Donald and Mildred Leotta Smith. He was raised in Uniontown, PA and attended school there. After graduation from high school, he joined the United States Air Force for 8 years.
He was preceded in death also by his daughter Vicki Smith and granddaughters Jackie Shuster and Jocelyn Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary G. Chastain, his sister Faith (husband Tom) Buckel, his daughter Karen (husband Scott) Robinson, Great grandchildren Ethan, Ivy, Andrew and Annabelle and Great-great grandchildren Elizabeth and Ian. He is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He loved meeting people, studying the Bible and most importantly sharing his faith with others as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He touched the lives of many by his generosity, love, kindness and always being there and ready to help others.
He worked at many different jobs over the years, but over the road Truck driving was his main career. He had a few hobbies such as driving in the stock car races and was a NASCAR enthusiast.
He will be greatly missed not only by family members, but also many friends.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a memorial service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 570 Robinwood Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43213 on January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, online donations to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses are welcome and may be made at donate.jw.org
