Dennis James Kampe's Obituary
Dennis James Kampe 76, of Lexington, Ohio, (formerly from Parma, Ohio and Massapequa, New York) passed away on December 21, 2021
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:30 pm on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Deer Ridge Golf Club in Bellville Ohio for a Celebration of Life.
Funeral services will be held privately by the family in care of Buckeye Cremation.
Dennis was born In Queens, New York to Violet Irene (Wilnus) and Philip G. Kampe on July 16, 1945. He went to school at Massapequa High School. He graduated from the State University of New York at Stoneybrook with a degree in material science and engineering. He then graduated from the University of Virginia attaining his Ph. D. He worked as a scientist for Union Carbide/ UCAR for over 30 years. Dennis was exceptionally intelligent and a hard worker that thrived in his field. During his career, he attained several United States Patents for his work and discoveries. He was able to travel to many places including China and Europe as well as host scientists from other countries showing them many of the landmarks of the United States.
Dennis’ talents were many; he was an excellent golfer and played soccer and baseball throughout his college years. He enjoyed playing handball with his best friend Jimmy and was a bowler in the 1980’s. Dennis was an avid golfer and received many trophies for the tournaments he participated in. He was always ready to learn new things even after his retirement in 2003. He felt education was very important and never hesitated to provide educational opportunities for his children and grandchildren.
Dennis always took an interest in his children’s activities and interests. He was a very involved grandfather who loved to attend their activities and awards. He especially loved going to the Outback and many other restaurants with his son Matthew. In 2013, Dennis relocated from the Parma area to live with his daughter Keri. He was able to engage in many family activities such as traveling and attending Callie’s cheerleading competitions and all her Academic Challenge matches. He enjoyed going back to New York and visiting Jones Beach every summer. Dennis was always a foodie at heart, even though he never cooked. He loved ice cream and anything chocolate. He enjoyed going to restaurants and was especially fond of pasta dishes.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Violet Irene Kampe and Philip George Kampe, as well his older brother Philip George Kampe II (Sonny Boy).
Dennis is survived by his children Keri Deskins (Dan), Matthew P. Kampe and granddaughters Callie Irene, Savannah, and Alexis.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Dennis’ name to Kemper House Worthington. This was Dennis’ home for the past 2 years and the care and love he received from the many workers and other residents was impeccable.
