Debbie Sue Lykkegaard's Obituary
Debbie Sue Lykkegaard (Rockhold), 68, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. She was born June 29, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, to Shirley (Hall) Rockhold and Gerald Rockhold. Her greatest gift was hope — the ability to see possibility where others saw obstacles. Debbie was the middle child between her brothers, Aaron Rockhold, who passed in 1965, and her surviving brother, James Rockhold, who lovingly remained by her side in her final days.
Debbie and her husband, Leo Lykkegaard, made their home in Columbus and worked for many years at DFAS Columbus until she was medically disabled. Together they balanced their careers while raising three children, something that meant the world to her. Leo passed away in 2005. Family was always at the center of Debbie’s life.
She was known for her warmth, her humor, and the hopeful spirit she carried through life. Even in difficult moments, she had a way of seeing beyond the obstacles and believing in something brighter ahead, often with the same warm smile her family will always remember. Her laughter and warm smile brought life to the moments she shared with family, especially when music played and loved ones gathered.
Debbie enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and especially hearing others sing. Those who knew her remember the joy she found in simple moments spent with family.
Debbie is survived by her loving brother, James Rockhold; her daughters, Amy Jeanette Lykkegaard and Ashley Lykkegaard (Joe Adkins); and her five beloved grandchildren: Aavery, Aalex, Daniel, Mya, and Ana Adkins.
Debbie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Aaron James Lykkegaard (2007); her parents, Shirley and Gerald Rockhold; her husband, Leo Lykkegaard; her brother, Aaron Rockhold; and her deeply loved nieces, Tosha and Jamie. She loved them all dearly, and we find comfort in believing she is now reunited with the loved ones she missed so much, resting together in the light of God’s love.
Though Debbie experienced many losses and challenges throughout her life, she remained deeply devoted to the family she loved. Her story reminds us that even through struggles of the mind and heart, we must continue searching for light, compassion, and hope for one another.
A memorial service to celebrate Debbie’s life will be held on March 29, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Community of Christ, 1255 Stringtown Road, Grove City, Ohio.
