Dean Joseph Smith's Obituary
Dean Joseph Smith, 59, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio passed away on October 24, 2025. His family and friends will remember him for his spontaneity, offbeat sense of humor and for always backing the underdog.
Dean was born on January 9, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio to David Smith and Sally Romy. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in finance and went on to build a successful career as a financial advisor. He often said, “If you do the right thing for the client, the money will come.” He loved football (especially the close games), bicycling, scary movies and HOT sauce.
Dean had a gift for numbers – he could make them sing as he put it - and names. He could go to a restaurant once, go back six months later and remember the server’s name. No question was too small or too bold — his curiosity made every conversation an adventure. Even during times when life kept them apart, his daughters were always in his heart, and his love for them was deeper than words could ever express.
He is survived by his wife, Jayne; his children — Amber (David), Britney (Ryan) — their mother, Karen; Thomas, and Trevor (Brianna); his parents, David (Joan) and Sally; his siblings, Jay (Mariana), Kelli (Steven); Michael (Sarah), and Michelle; his grandchildren, Mia and Stanford; and his large extended family and many friends who loved him dearly.
A celebration of Dean’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1 with visitation at noon, followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Impact City Church, 8577 Watkins Rd SW, Pataskala.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (Tribute Donation | Mid-Ohio Food Collective).
