David Leonard Schlater's Obituary
David Leonard "Dave" Schlater, age 62, passed away on May 4, 2025, in Grove City, Ohio. Born on August 15, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio, Dave lived a life marked by resilience, generosity, and a deep love for his family and the outdoors.
Dave began his working life as the owner of a power washing company, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic. Later, he transitioned into truck driving—a profession that suited his independent nature—and ultimately found his place driving for an excavation company. Through each chapter of his career, Dave remained dedicated and hardworking.
He was a proud father to his daughter Jessica (Daniel) Schleben of Three Rivers, Michigan, and son TJ (Danielle) Hunt of Circleville, Ohio. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren: Nicholas, Colton, and Jasper; along with bonus grandkids Cameron and McKenzie. Dave cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in being part of their lives.
Dave is also remembered by his sister Juanita Steuer. He was preceded in death by his parents Cletus and Georgia (Hill) Schlater; sister and brother-in-law Nancy (Schlater) and Micheal Snurr; and brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Annette Schlater.
A true country boy at heart, Dave loved being outdoors—whether it was fishing on a quiet morning or tending to his yard with care. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing. He was known for firing up the grill for family gatherings and sharing stories that could make anyone laugh or reflect. His storytelling was legendary among those who knew him best.
Dave had a heart of gold. He never hesitated to lend a hand to someone in need or offer advice drawn from the many ups and downs he faced throughout life. His strength through adversity inspired those around him.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and carry forward the warmth of his generous spirit.
