Daniel "Dan" Swander's Obituary
Daniel “Dan” Swander, 75, passed away at home on February 9, 2026, after fighting his declining heart health and diabetes for years. He quietly and peacefully went home to be with the Lord.
Dan was born in Sandusky, Ohio as the first son of Danny and Marian Swander. While he had a goal of becoming a commercial pilot, God had other plans and Dan was no longer able to fly due to his health. With his beautiful voice, quick wit, and love for performing, he was led into broadcasting where he spent well over 40 years. He loved radio, all kinds of music, and stories which he shared on the air again with that beautiful voice. It was one of his last roles in Christian radio where he met Julie, “The Book Lady”, and they married soon after. Dan was an incredible photographer. He especially loved photographing wildlife and nature. He spent time doing real estate photography here in Columbus which allowed him more time at home with his father-in-law, Ned Wilson, whom he called “Nedly”. As Ned’s health declined, Dan fully retired to be Ned’s caregiver until Ned passed in 2015.
Dan is survived by his wife, Julie, step-daughters Emily and Kelly Harris, brothers David (Pam) and Jeff (Renee) of Sandusky, as well as nieces and nephews living in the Sandusky area.
Dan will be remembered for his big heart, his beautiful booming voice, and his crazy sense of humor. But the biggest part of his life that he will remembered for is his love and faith in Jesus Christ and his love of God’s word in scripture. It is that love that gives us peace knowing that he is with Christ waiting to be reunited with many loved ones.
A private service will be held with family and Dan’s ashes will be spread at one of his favorite places in Ohio.
