Clarence Leonard Duncan's Obituary
On August 29, 2021, the world we knew changed when our “CL,” “Len,” “BP,” “Daddy,” “Pumpkin,” husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and hero departed this life suddenly.
Born on November 22, 1945, he led an adventurous life, including being a percussionist for the Luther Jackson High School Tigers, a Green Beret, and an avid golfer. He found joy in spending time with his family (especially Thanksgiving dinners), watching horse racing, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Duncan, mother Inez Harris Duncan, brothers Wilber and Sylvester Duncan, and sister, Dora Morris.
His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Brenda (Marshall) Duncan; four children: Patricia (Wyndel) Ficklin, Warren (Sonja Robinson) Duncan, Crystal Duncan, and Duncan (Cheryl Trammell) McDermott; four grandchildren: Michael Duncan, Megan Duncan, Chaya (Kenneth Hummler) Duncan, and Emily McDermott; siblings, Evangeline (Lawrence) Robinson, Robert (Connie) Duncan, Cleo (Donald) Willson, and Elouise Duncan-Grimes; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We will miss his smile, quick wit, and sense of humor, but he will live forever in our hearts.
“Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.”
~William Ernest Henley
The family will host a memorial service to be held at a later time.
