Christel Pounds' Obituary
Christel Pounds, a beloved member of the German community in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on May 29th, 2023. She lived a full life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. She was born in Pirmasens, Germany on February 23, 1937, and is preceded in death by her husband, David Pounds, two brothers, Fred and Helmut Adler, and a sister, Annemarie Langer. At the age of 86, she also leaves behind family and friends that will forever keep her close in their hearts.
Christel was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was the loving mother of four children, Bob Giannascoli (Diane), Dan Giannascoli (Chris), Christine “Sue” Giannascoli, and Kim Aguirre. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Carly Baxter (Alex) and Nicholas Giannascoli. Christel also had a special place in her heart for her dog Alex, whom she was devoted to and was never far from her side.
Christel was an active and dedicated member of the Germania Singing & Sport Society in Columbus, Ohio for 25+ years. She spent many years in the choir singing traditional German songs, and traveling around the U.S. singing with other German clubs. She found camaraderie in this tight-knit community, where she formed lifelong friendships and connections. Her involvement in the Germania was a testament to her love of German heritage and culture.
Christel's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved her, but her spirit and the memories she created will live on forever. A funeral service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date TBD. Christel Pounds will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her impact on the lives she touched will be remembered and cherished for generations to come. May her soul find eternal peace.
