Ching "Jim" Ming Wang's Obituary
Ching (Jim) Ming Wang age 89 of Columbus, OH passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023 at home with his wife and children at his side. He was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States in 1968.
Ching learned woodworking after serving in the Taiwan military. He co-owned a furniture company in Taipei, Taiwan before coming to Columbus and continuing his work as a cabinetmaker. He worked for numerous companies during his four decades as a carpenter and cabinetmaker. His work included displays for Limited stores and custom home furniture.
He was a lifelong fitness enthusiast and United States Judo Association 4th degree Black Belt. Well known in the judo community, "Jim" was an instructor at The Ohio State University and competed and refereed at countless tournaments across the state and region.
He was also an avid gardener with vegetables, flowers and plants filling his yard. He also continued to build and refurbish furniture long after retiring.
Ching is preceded in death by his father, mother, older sister, older brother, and two younger brothers. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Yan Mei Wang; children Jim (Wendy) Wang, Sharon Wang (Ben Liu); grandchildren JJ (Lindsey) Wang, Ryan Liu, Sarah Liu, Steve (Cassia) Boaz; great-grandchildren Walker Wang, Logan Boaz; older sister Judy Redeman; brothers-in-laws and sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces and other relatives.
