Carolyn Elayne Hawkins' Obituary
Carolyn Elayne Hawkins, age 90, passed away on February 25, 2024 at St. Angelines McCory Manor. Born on November 9, 1933, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
What do you say about a woman who had fought the good fight yet still had enough love and energy left to enfold you into her arms and make you feel loved. This woman, mom, and grandmother had so many facets to her being. She was dedicated to friends and family who would sometimes lead to those 3 am “come to Jesus” talks where she imparted wisdom. She would also make gourmet feasts out of leftovers, not to mention her famous fried chicken. She was unique, funny, ornery, generous, and very passionate about life. Her time here on earth has left its mark on so many hearts, even strangers. She dared to live on the edge as she danced, sang, prayed, joked, shopped, golfed, and “scooty pooped” (one of her favorite sayings) her way through life. She gracefully navigated the fairways of existence, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Her love for life was reflective of her tenacity and joy in facing life's challenges. We know from a very young age she stated she felt the hands of the Lord in her life and on her heart. We will miss her energy and life-giving affection until we meet again in the next heavenly chapter. Elayne will be fondly remembered for her resilience, kindness, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in her journey. May her spirit continue to inspire us all. The family is very grateful to all of the staff at St. Angelines McCory Manor and Wesley Hospice who assisted us walking through this transition.
Carolyn Elayne was preceded in death by her parents Rosemary Brickner and Phil McBride, her husband Roger Kay Hawkins, and after his passing Bill Naderhoff. She is survived by her children Valerie Heath (Michael), Roger “Rick” Hawkins (Shelly), her grandsons Matthew Gullet (Mary Rose) and Adam Gullet, and great grandchildren Conner Mattew Gullet and Autumn Rose Gullet. Last but not least, to all other family and friends. May they always remember her warm heart, gentle spirit, and the wisdom she shared.
A memorial mass to celebrate Elaine's life will be held on March 21, 2024 at St. Angelines McCory Manor Chapel, 5199 E. Broad Street Columbus, OH 43213 at 2pm. Celebration of life to follow the mass. For those unable to make the journey, the mass will be recorded and subsequently posted to social media.
May she rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
