Bruce Avery Hennen's Obituary
Bruce Avery Hennen, 64, passed away early on December 4th, 2024, at Arbors at Delaware, in Delaware, Ohio.
Bruce was born on February 22nd, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, to parents Martha (Marti) Schafer Buxton (deceased) and Merle Louis Hennen (deceased).
After graduating from North High School in Columbus, Ohio, he later enlisted in the Navy where he served 4 years on the USS Belleau Wood. He toured Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and Australia, among several other island nations. Bruce was proud of his service and had a deep respect for veterans and his country.
Bruce married his first wife, Kelly Hall, in 1989, with whom he had two children, Addison and Stephanie. He later married Rose Smith (Wood) and had a third child, Chey.
Though never completely successful in marriage, Bruce was a family man who loved kids and took pride in his children. He liked to make big weekend breakfasts and partake in living room wrestling matches with his kids.
Bruce was a lover of animals, rock music, and denim jackets. He was a skilled handyman who could build just about anything, including a two-story shed in the backyard with a clubhouse for his children in the upstairs portion.
He enjoyed spending football season rooting for his favorite teams, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the San Francisco 49ers. He had a collection of vintage Coca-Cola bottles and memorabilia, and was an avid dart player with his friends.
Bruce is preceded in death by his mother (1999) and father (2016), brother-in-law Ray Spohn II (2024) and sister-in-law Safeya Hennen (2024).
He is survived by his children Addison Hennen, Stephanie (Steve) Hennen Demor, and Chey Hennen; his granddaughter Jane Demor; his siblings Vikki Spohn, Jodi Hennen, Tod Hennen, and Mark Hennen; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial event will be held in Bruce's honor on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, at the Antrim Park Shelterhouse, 5800 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio, from 6-8 pm. All are welcome and invited to bring an item to share for the potluck.
Flowers will be accepted at 1465 Willowcreek Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43228, or the family encourages mourners to consider making a donation to US Vets to help veterans struggling with homelessness and mental health issues, in honor of Bruce's memory (usvets.org).
