Patrick Michael Lanahan Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Saturday, July 13, 2019, Patrick Michael Lanahan, loving father of two children, died in Galena, Ohio at the age of 58 after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. Patrick was born on June 28, 1961 in Youngstown, Ohio to Richard and Nancy Lanahan (Bugby). He graduated with honors from Ohio Dominican University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983. He went on to complete all the course work required for a Masters of Arts degree at The Ohio State University. Patrick received his law degree from Capital University in 1995 and was licensed to practice law in 1996. Patrick’s career was dedicated to helping others. Before his death, he was the President of Health and Human Services Consulting, LLC where he worked with local agencies to improve efficiencies with their public programs. He was a Partner with Technical Services Collaborative of Boston and headed up the New Albany, Ohio office. Patrick served under governors Celeste, Voinovich, Taft, Strickland and Kasich. He was the Deputy Director for the State of Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. Prior to that he was an associate with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, LLC practicing healthcare law. He worked as the Deputy Director for the Ohio Department of Human Services, Office of Medicaid, where he helped manage the nation’s fifth largest Medicaid program, led a senior management team in the implementation of federal and state regulations and served as chief of the Bureau of Medicaid policy. Patrick represented the state before the Health Care Financing Administration and served as a project officer for Ohio’s Section 1115 Waiver. He also served as an assistant chief with the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction services. Patrick wrote and published numerous whitepapers directing policy on subjects including Medicaid, mental health and addiction. He received numerous awards over the course of his career. Patrick was a child prodigy of music. He composed music which came from his soul. He loved the theater and won awards in college for acting. Patrick loved to paint. He loved to cook. Creative expression was a necessity. Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his children, Liam and Kathleen, his mother, Nancy Bugby, stepfather, Robert Bugby, sisters, Colleen Caskey and Maureen Thomas, nephews and niece, A.J. Caskey, Shannon Lorenbeck and Aidan Thomas, and his former spouse, Jennie. Thanks to Dr. Yvonne Efebera, M.D. and her staff at the James and Dr. Donald Mack, M.D. and Nurse Mike Milburn with Heartland Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 26th 2:00 pm at the Shelter House at Whetstone Park in Columbus, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Hospice or the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus.
